Launch of HAIL Strategic Plan 2012-2014, 'Housing - A Platform for Recovery'

Karolyn Ward - Wednesday, July 11, 2012

At the recent AGM of the Association the Chairman of HAIL, Éanna McHugh launched the company’s Strategic Plan 2012 – 2014 entitled ‘Housing - a Platform for Recovery’. HAIL believes that secure housing is an essential platform for recovery from mental ill health and for sustaining that recovery.  The Association completed a strategic review earlier in the year. Our vision of a society in which people with mental health difficulties can live a satisfying and rewarding life was revisited. Our role (mission) in fulfilling that vision for people with mental difficulties over the next three years was also discussed in great detail.  The process provided a basis for reviewing and monitoring the current service we provide to our tenants. The Strategy for the next three years provides a clear picture of the Associations ongoing commitment to providing good quality housing and individually tailored support services to people with mental health difficulties, both now and in the future.  The Strategy contains a new vision and mission statement for HAIL. The vision of “a society where people, primarily those with mental health difficulties, can achieve and sustain independent living in the community having secure, quality, affordable accommodation with appropriate supports” is underpinned by the four strategic goals:

  • To acquire additional housing in the greater Dublin area primarily for people with mental health difficulties and to ensure the housing stock is maintained in accordance with best practice.
  • To provide a personalised support service to people with mental health difficulties to manage their tenancy and live independently in the community.
  • To influence policy makers in the area of housing and mental health.
  • To ensure the organisation is governed and managed in accordance with best practice.
Throughout the life of this plan, HAIL will provide homes together with support as needed, not just giving those with mental health difficulties a key to a door, but a key to a new life in their community.  More...
