HAIL, the specialist housing association primarily for people with mental health challenges, has today (22.06.22) welcomed the launch of the National Housing Strategy for Disabled People 2022-2027 Implementation Plan by the Government.

Commenting today, Martina Smith CEO of HAIL, said: “The launch of the Implementation Plan is an important step in ensuring people with disabilities can access the housing they need. We look forward to reviewing the Implementation Plan in detail to assess the role we can play in supporting its delivery.

“As a specialist mental health housing association, our work closely aligns with the National Housing Strategy for Disabled People. We have a strong track record in delivering high quality social housing with professional wraparound support services to help people with mental health challenges live independently in their community.

“A key focus of our work is on supporting people with a mental health diagnosis transition out of HSE congregated settings and homeless services into independent living. We also provide support to those in private rented accommodation, local authority and social housing, who need help developing the skills needed to maintain a tenancy and live independently. These are areas which strongly interlink with the National Housing Strategy for Disabled People.”

Martina Smith, added: “We would welcome any opportunities to engage with the Government, to examine ways we can deliver more housing and expand our support services in communities across Ireland, to support the implementation of the National Housing Strategy for Disabled People.”
